Weight Loss Before and After: Jamie Cuts 107 Pounds And Continues To Lose

I have been overweight since early childhood. By the time I started 6th grade I was over 200lbs. I had suffered some physical and emotional abuse and I turned to food for comfort. I wish I would have found something healthy to comfort myself because this only led to further pain.

NAME : jamie

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  Being overweight made me completely depressed. I hardly had any friends, was bullied constantly, and I was socially awkward, so I started turning to drugs and alcohol by the time I was 13 to ease the pain when food wasn’t enough. My weight ballooned and I dropped out of school and started cutting myself. I thoroughly hated myself and contemplated suicide.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  I had plenty of embarrassing events, (being asked to get off a ride because I was too fat, etc) plenty of comments from family, (you’re too pretty to be fat, etc) but they were never enough to make me change. To be honest, I don’t know what did it. It was like a light just came on in my head and I knew I had to stop the self destruction, or I was going to die. When I started exercising and eating healthy, I saw that it really helped with my depression and anxiety. And the results I saw really kept me going. I started my instagram and I got a TON of support, that also helped keep me going.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  The first thing I did was start lowering my calories to 1400 a day and I started walking around the neighborhood. I lost 35lbs doing that, but started to stall. So I decided to start the ketogenic diet, which has been the perfect diet for me. My love for food turned into a passion for cooking, which has helped me stay on track. It’s easy to diet when you have delicious food to look forward to!

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  I saw results almost immediately! I dropped almost 10lbs in the first week, probably because it was such a huge change for me.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  My biggest challenge was ME. I had to fight through so much self doubt and hate. It still amazes me sometimes that I was able to find the strength to do this. I feel like it was a gift from the heavens! I am so grateful that it did happen though, or I might not have been able to conceive my son!

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  I had my ups and downs, but overall I knew I had to do this for the sake of my happiness, so giving up wasn’t an option.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  I hit some plateaus from time to time, but I feel like that is just a message from your body to step it up! So I did. I just add more exercise and watch what I am eating more carefully.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  I lost 35 lbs from low calorie dieting for about 5 months, then lost another 72 over the past year.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  Fitting into a size 14, I think was my biggest NSV. I hadn’t fit into a 14 since I was 11!

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  When I was heavier, I could probably easily scarf down 3,000 calories in one sitting. I binged, binged, binged! I ate when I was sad, I ate to celebrate, I ate when I was angry. Food was my life! When I was finished with a meal, I’d immediately be thinking about what was next!

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I hardly ever got off the couch when I was heavier. I started walking just around the neighborhood, each time going a little further. Now I am walking about 5 miles each time. I go to the gym now to to walk on an incline because it is too flat where I live. I also do home workouts now with a kettlebell. Exercising really eases my anxiety and I love it! It gives me some “me” time, and helps me clear my head.

  1. Switch it up! I can’ say this enough! I get bored easily with food and that can be a downfall for me.
  2. Get creative! Try new recipes! Pinterest has been a godsend for me!
  3. Make an instagram fitness account if you can! The weight loss community is SOO supportive! I’ve made new friends and they really help me stay motivated.
