WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have had a weight problem since I stopped playing competitive sports in high school. I was always the largest kid on the team but was also the most muscular and strongest after I was injured that muscle and strength turned to fat and flab!
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The turning point for me was looking at my family all enjoying running around with my nieces and realizing that I am just a bystander in those memories. I was terrified I would never be able to give my husband the family he wanted because my weight could be a problem and then once I did have kids I was afraid I wouldn’t be a good mom because my weight would hold me back. I would avoid photos like the plague because I didn’t want to see what I had become, selfies with only the right angle became the only pictures I would keep of myself. The before picture posted is actually from a year before I first started my journey and around 50lbs below my start weight, I hated these pictures. I should look back on these pictures from one of my best friends wedding with joy and happiness but instead I felt like a sausage stuffed into casing. I had so many layers of spanx on, I was so hot and sticky and uncomfortable. I wish so much I had started my journey at that point or at some many points similar to it along the way but that’s okay because at least I am going the right direction now and I will never give up!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started with at home dance/workout videos every day and making sure to get at least 10k steps per day. I also started just making healthier food choices, I cut out all soda and juices, started adding more lean protein, veggies, fruits and tried to stay away from processed and high carb items.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started September 2015 and really I would say the end of October I started really seeing results and feeling like okay I can do this!!!
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I would say the biggest challenge I had to overcome were my mental demons telling me it was okay to give up and that its okay to live this way forever.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I absolutely have wanted to give up in the past but I already know what giving up feels like and I want to know what it feels like to never give up. This isn’t something I can give up on. I cannot give up on my body, my future, my life, it’s the only one I am going to get so I have to take care of it.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I have hit many plateaus, heck I am currently sitting at one, but I think by remembering that every day is a step in the right direction and really focusing on non scale victories have helped me stay focused.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
So far I am sitting at a little over 11 months and have currently lost 100lbs. I still have around 65lbs to go before I hit my goal weight so I am hoping to hit that before my 30th birthday in August 2017.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Plenty!!! Sleeping better, stomach issues subsiding, more energy, happier, bigger smiles, I don’t have to be afraid of flying and the seat belt not fitting, looser clothing, can fun 4 miles without stopping, etc!!!!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My diet isn’t perfect cause life is all about balance but now as opposed to saying screw it and having whatever I want I calculate my cheats and make them worth it. The rest of the time I eat clean!
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
So much different! I would try to park as close to the store as possible in parking lots, I would ask my husband to get me things (well I guess I still do but that’s cause I am sore now 😉 ), now I am always thinking of reasons to move around, jump out of bed to workout, and don’t shy away from signing up for 5ks!
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Take progress pictures cause even when the scale isn’t moving the pictures tell a completely different story.
- If you slip up, IT’S OKAY!!! Just learn from it and get back to it. Never give up.
- Progress not perfection. You don’t have to be perfect along this journey you just have to follow your own path and progress along your own path.
- Don’t get discouraged if you don’t have the same results as so and so you see online. You are a completely different person then them and just focus on yourself without comparison.
