WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve been over weight my entire life. I had two very busy working parents that brought home different take out every evening which didn’t help my already slow metabolism. As I got older, life got a bit messier and I turned to food for comfort. Which led to me being almost 300 pounds.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
In EVERY aspect. Complete fear of everything – sitting in a chair, being afraid it might break. Not being able to go on roller coasters, or go to school dances, or wanting to wear a bathing suit, or shorts…. It made me miserable in every way. Except when I was eating.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I wish I could say that there was some EXACT moment or turning point but I don’t remember that happening. One day, I just started going to the gym and I just kept going.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started getting up daily at 5 am and walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes. I eventually made it up to an hour. Then I eyed the elliptical machine and that thing was a beast! I only lasted 5 minutes but I was determined! Every day I’d try the elliptical for as long as I could handle it and finish the rest of my workout on the treadmill. Eventually, I made it all the way to an hour on that thing. The elliptical machine saved my life.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started seeing results about a month into it. The results just fueled my fire. There wasn’t anything you could put in front of me to stop me.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
After losing my initial 75 pounds, I gained a bit back because I had deprived myself of EVERYTHING. But I got back on the bandwagon and lost the weight PLUS another 25 pounds to make it 100 total pounds lost. I currently struggle and will probably always continue to struggle with my emotional addiction to food. I’m trying to learn to find the balance.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
of course! But I never want to be that girl again. The girl that was so afraid to live. So I will keep fighting for her until the day I die.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes, I’ve hit quite a few. You just have to NEVER give up.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I believe it took me a about a year and a half to lose 100 pounds.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Oh gosh! So many! Freedom from fear of EVERYTHING is the most important one!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I ate A LOT of junk food – take out – frozen pizza’s, etc. Now, I eat lean meats and veggies.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
The complete opposite and non existent. Now, I try to workout 5 to 6 days a week.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Take baby steps. Don’t try to change everything at once. Instead of eating a whole pizza, I’d eat 3 or 4 slices and have a salad. Instead of eating a double cheeseburger, large fry WITH an extra side of onion rings, I’d get just a regular cheeseburger with a small fry. Just try to take ONE thing and master it. Then move on to something else.
- You’re gonna make mistakes. It’s inevitable. You just can’t let it derail you. You have to keep going.
- Surround yourself with supportive people.
- Drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep!
