The berries in this tasty snack give a boost of antioxidants and phytochemicals. Strawberries in particular may have phytochemicals that are anti-inflammatory and may help decrease inflammation.
Blueberries are rich in a phytochemical called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins have been associated with decreased risk for cardiovascular disease and may assist inhibiting growth of cancer cells.
The USDA recommends making at least half your grain intake whole grains, and using a whole wheat baguette instead of white bread is a way to get a serving of whole grains. Low fat cottage cheese provides a low fat source of protein that makes this a balanced, filling snack.
