WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I started developing a weight problem when I lost my mom at age 6 to cancer. No one knew what to do with me so they fed me to help me with the loss of losing my mom. My dad remarried my a beautiful woman that I call my mom and she helped me he a handle on my weight to some extent. When I was 18 I moved out of my house and moved in with my ex husband and we had a little girl named Victoria. I found out when she was 6 months she had cerebral palsy. I spent every moment of my day taking her to therapy appointments and doctors and I forgot about me because she is what meant the most. She turned 1 on July 17 and tragically 10 days after her 1st birthday she passed away. My world crashed down around me. I did what I knew best I ate my emotions and I ballooned up.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
It made me a hermit. I hid behind my weight. I would make excuses and I did not want to do anything but sit down in front of the TV and eat. I did not want to work, go out to be he movies nothing. I turned into someone I did not even recognize.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
In 2009 I started work at a daycare and they took your picture to hang on the wall so parents can see who you are and my boss said come look at the picture that will be on the wall. It stopped me in my tracks. I did not even recognize myself, I started crying and then vowed to myself that I was going to change myself and I did. My husband helps me out tremendously.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started to change my eating habits and quit eating fried foods and starting eating fresh fruit and vegetables and drink only water.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I could see a change after I had lost the first 40 pounds.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I hated working our and I would make excuses on why I could not work out but my husband would get our bicycles out and we would go bike riding all the time. I absolutely love getting up and being as active as I positivly can.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes I always want to stop and eat all the foods I know that are not good for me but I know that I will always struggle with that demon in me. I will allow myself on special occasions to have those foods but in moderation and very rare. I love the foods but I want my weight off more than those foods.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit plateaus all the time but I sit back regroup and restructure my foods I am consuming and my work outs. Usually I start losing weight again after a few days

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I always lost my weight fast at first then I would get off track then gain it all back again. So this last time I had it in my mind to lose it slow so I lost the majority of it in about 4 years.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
My little boy loves to run and when he did races I would sign up and walk them. I won fist place in the speed walking division.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I balance out my proteins and try to incorporate fruits and veggies, eat 3 meals and snacks and nothing after 6. When I was heavier I would eat bags of chips, soft drinks, candy bars very very unhealthy things. I would got to the store for something and come out with 5 candy bars and eat all of them in the parking lot before I came home.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I am always up doing something, I have a membership to a gym and I go workout and I come home and I turn music up and dance my heart out. When I was heavier I would sit down and not get up at all unless I had to.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Always eat baked foods, steamed or grilled.
  2. Stay as active as you can: dance around your house, during commercials do sit ups or hog in place.
  3. Drink as much water as you can and if you don’t like the taste get you a lemon and squeeze the juice in it and it will be taste great.
  4. Don’t hide behind your weight get up and love yourself.
  5. Remember it did not take a day to gain the weight so don’t expect it to come off in a day.
