I learned a lot about why I had to say “no nicotine today” for the rest of my life and that nicotine replacement therapies were actually sabotaging my efforts to quit rather than helping. It was like I turned off a switch and my lifelong addiction was over.
I’ve always been overweight and it had gotten out of control over the last few years. Then I gained even more after quitting smoking, but I focused on just staying quit.

On April 28, 2013, I woke up and said to myself that it was time for the next step! My sister had lost a lot of weight and inspired me to do the same, but I was bound and determined to do it all on my own so I could make it last the rest of my life. I started educating myself on nutrition and fitness and began exercising every day. I stopped eating all fast food and processed foods, choosing healthy ones instead. I use MyFitnessPal app on my phone to count my calories and have done so every day since last April. I discovered the wealth of free workout videos available on YouTube and watch them on my tablet to work out at 5:15 6 days a week in my own basement! I do all kinds of workouts and LOVE using an HRM to monitor my calorie burn and heart rate.

I’ve gone from being a very unfit and tired person to being full of energy and life. The pain I was dealing with in my back and hips is basically gone as is the plantar fasciitis! Yeah! I am proud to say that I have now lost 55 lbs. and am closing in on my final goal of 71 lbs. My husband is thrilled and I have to admit that it’s pretty fun to get so much attention for transforming myself! Who’d have thought I’d ever be the person others would ask about nutrition and fitness? I now find myself in the position of helping others by sharing recipe ideas, shopping tips and workout videos. I am so happy to pay this forward. It’s amazing to me that so many people provide excellent workouts free of charge online. Fitness Blender and Realfit.tv have had a profound impact on my life and I thank them. I’m looking forward to turning 50 next year and being “younger” than I’ve been since I was in my early 20s!

My favorite quote, that really says it all: “Change your mindset so that taking care of your body feels less like punishment and more like a privilege”.
