WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I was always chunkier as a child, but I didn’t start REALLY putting on weight until about 7th grade.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
In junior high, I was heavily bullied. I had always been very outgoing, but once the bullying started I tried any excuse to stay home from school. I would lock myself in my room and I even began to self-harm to cope.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My junior year of high school I was simply fed up with being the “nice, fat girl”.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by simply restricting my calories and beginning to exercise by running around the block. I had no idea when it came to nutrition and exercise at the time, but I was determined to learn.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started seeing results right away, but I stopped after 30LBS lost and I maintained for the next 3 years before I REALLY got serious about my weightloss and lost 50LBS permanently. 80LBS altogether.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The biggest challenge was growing up in a household that ate nothing but junk. We had ramen noodles for dinner about 3-4 times a week, and that’s when I started to buy my own groceries.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes, the only thing that still keeps me going is simply taking it one day at a time.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Plateaus are inevitable, and I’ve had many. The only trick to overcoming them is to keep going, stay consistent, and shock your body with news foods or a different type of workout routine. Mix it up!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I lost 30LBS the first few months, and then I stopped being as serious about weigjtloss. Now, 3 years later, I’ve lost 50 LBS since February 2016. Making my total weightloss since high school 80LBS.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
The BEST non-scale victories are the way your clothes are loose on you. Or when you see an old friend or family member and they don’t even recognize that it’s you. Also, I won prom queen. That was such an honor in itself! I was recently contacted by both Lenny and Larrys, and Quest after hearing about my success story.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier, I use to dip EVERYTHING in ranch, and drank so much Mountain Dew daily. Now, I’m a vegetarian, I love all vegetables and I make including protein a priority in my meals.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I didn’t exercise at all. Now, I spend 5 days a week either doing cardio, lifting, or both.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Take it one day at a time.
  2. Don’t be afraid to splurge every once in awhile! Life is all about balance.
  3. Reward yourself with non-food items.
  4. Don’t worry so much about the number, but how you feel.
  5. Inspire others with everything you’ve learned. Whether you see it or not, you are a role model for someone else.
