My 1 Yr Weight Loss Journey Anniversary!

By  |

Great success story! Read before and after fitness transformation stories from women and men who hit weight loss goals and got THAT BODY with training and meal prep. Find inspiration, motivation, and workout tips | My 1 Yr Weight Loss Journey Anniversary! My name is Bessie, I am a 37 year old wife and mother of two beautiful girls. I’ve always struggled with being overweight, even as a child.

I’ve yo-yo dieted all my young and adult life but slowly continued to gain more weight than losing it, until I reached over 240 lbs. My breaking point was a year ago in 12/2011. My 2X blouses had “magically shrunk” and I had to go buy new ones. Come to my surprise as I tried on the new 2X blouses in the fitting room, they did not fit!

After crying in front of my 10 year old for a few seconds, I decided to accept my new size and went straight home with the new 3X blouses in hand without trying them on. A few days later, when I went to put on one of the 3X blouses, it did not fit either! Enough was enough, I decided I was worth it and had to start taking my weight loss seriously.

I started at 241 lbs. I used different tools throughout my journey. For making me accountable of what I ate, I first journaled my food with a free app on my iPhone called “MyFitnessPal.” Then I signed up for “Weight Watchers” on-line for a while. Even though I had managed to lose 35 lbs up to that point, I eventually found “BodyMedia Fit” and fell in love with it!

Not only does “BodyMedia Fit” let you journal your food intake on your iPhone, it also comes with an armband to tell you how much activity you have done and most importantly, how many calories you’ve burned in a day. That has been my greatest tool to date.

For exercise, I started with Zumba. First at home with Zumba DVDs and on Wii, then going to different Zumba classes in town and surrounding areas. I used to hate exercising, but I love Zumba so much because I love to dance! It has motivated me in so many to move that I have incorporated other types of exercises in my weight loss journey such as running, weight training, and at-home exercise DVD programs.

I am proud to say I have lost a total of -73 lbs as of today, 12/13/12. People keep asking me what my secret is. “Am I taking a pill?” “Did I get gastric bypass surgery done?” I tell them no, it all comes down to common sense for me = calories in vs. calories out!

Even though I am still 41 lbs away from goal, I know 2013 will be the year I will finally be at a healthy weight and I invite all of you to join me in making 2013 our healthiest and lightest year for the sake of America’s future!
