Losing 119 Pounds Without Surgery
Many weight loss strategies didn’t do much at all for Chend57 and the results she wanted were realized when she took matters into her own hands. A quick fix isn’t always the best way, that losing weight involves so much more than just shedding excess pounds. Losing 119lbs, she shares with us the difficulties she experienced at first, and some words of wisdom on having a health-oriented attitude.
1. What prompted you to begin this weight loss journey? Did you have an “Aha!” moment?
My husband and I adopted our 2nd grandchild and I had a gastric bypass surgery scheduled but with only 2 hours notice before our 2nd grandchild came to live with us, I had to cancel the surgery because he was under 2 and I wouldn’t even have been able to carry him after surgery. I decided that if I wanted to live to raise my grandchildren that now call me mom, I needed to get healthy.
2. What other “diets” (programs, products, plans, or services) had you tried in the past?
I had tried everything from low calorie, low fat, grapefruit, Weight Watchers, catkins and the list goes on and on.
3. Please describe how you reached your weight loss goal. What changes did you make to your usual diet, activity, lifestyle, and attitude? Did you implement any other strategies besides Calorie Count? What was the most important change?
I am not at goal weight yet but the way I have lost these 119 lbs was to increase my exercise, start eating clean and watching my portion size. I have recently signed up for Calorie Count’s Premium Services because I had came to a standstill and knew I needed to refine my intake and Calorie Count has such a great program that I can see weaknesses and strengths.
4. Please describe how Calorie Count was instrumental to your weight loss.
I am using Calorie Count and making those adjustments that I need to my diet to make the next transition of my weight loss program. I believe Calorie Count is going to allow me to reach my goal.
5. What difficulties did you experience losing weight?
Plateaus are hard for me. I think my biggest problem is I like the scale too much. Some days it’s motivational and some days it is a downer for my motivation.
6. How long did it take you to see results? When did you realize that you were a success?
It still do a double take in the mirror. I used to hate the mirror and still have to force myself to look in the mirror but when I do look, I love what I see.
7. How do you prevent relapse?
Every day is a new day. I allow myself to have a bad choice without having that attitude of “screw it”; I messed up so let’s keep messing up and have a piece of cheesecake!
8. How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I am more active and I can sit on a plane without worrying. I tried water skiing again. I go hiking for miles with my kids. I’m enjoying life with my children now!
9. How long have you maintained your current weight?
I am still losing. I continue to make baby steps but it is harder now.
10. What tips do you have for other dieters?
- Eat breakfast.
- Choose healthy food 80% of the time.
- Give up the diet Pepsi and drink more water.
- Don’t deprive yourself. It has to be a life change that you can live with.
- Find an exercise that you enjoy. I’m a huge spin fan. I couldn’t do it for 5 minutes at first but now I can really kick that class’s butt!
