I let go of 100 pounds in 18 months!

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I started to develop a weight problem in middle school around the age of 13. I didn’t know this at the time but I was subconsciously gaining weight to protect myself from the sexual harassment and molestation from two peers at my school. I got heavier and gained more weight at the years passed by and I developed an addiction to food. I never told anyone about the harassment and even to this day not many people are aware because I most recently was helped , by a mentor, to realize that connection. She helped me realize that is why I began to gain weight in the first place and continued to do so throughout my adult life. I have been overweight from the age of 13 to 29.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight affected every area of my life. I was miserable, hopeless, depressed, and felt trapped living a life I knew I shouldn’t be living. I never wanted to take pictures. I never wanted to go shopping or buy clothes and I didn’t have normal relationships growing up. I have never had a serious relationship and did not experience middle and high school like a normal teenager. I faked a smile and happiness quite a bit but i was never truly happy with life or joyful about living. I was jealous of others who weren’t overweight and i longed to fix it. I was never happy about the way that I looked and I feel that I missed our on so many things because of this problem.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I was 29 years old and was at a church event when I felt like God really showed me how serious my problem was and how deep my addiction to food went. He made me realize that if I didn’t fix it my life was heading down a path to so many health issues. I then found a program called 6fix that i found on facebook that is an online nutrition program. The day i signed up, I felt like that was my last chance to change that if i didnt change now I was never going to . I had no belief in myself to even start and didnt believe I could ever look the way that i do now.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started with an online nutrition program called 6fix which teaches you how to change your lifestyle through nutrition, workouts and mindset coaching. I began following that program and checked in with my coach and the creator of the program for accountability and she helped me succeed. She believed in me when I had none for myself and God sent her as the answer to my prayers for help when I knew I couldn’t do it myself.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
On this program I began to see them immediately! I lost weight the first week and kept following the program and NEVER stopped.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I overcame being pre-diabetic, Pcos, chronic migraines. I had a cancer scare. I had surgery to remove a cyst from beside my tailbone requiring me to stop working out for two months. I also dealt with more negativity from friends, coworkers and family than i had anticipated. You know you would assume that everyone would be behind you becoming more healthy but that is not always the case!
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I have never wanted to totally give up. I think that is the wrong choice of words. There were times when I wondered how long I could keep it a lifestyle and times I struggled with staying the course. But I never just wanted to give up. What kept me going is the way that I felt about myself. IT changed and I began to love life and the changes that were happening to me. So i chased it and I still am.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit a plateau once and my coach helped me overcome it. What I did was switch up my workouts and nutrition. I will always believe in having help and accountability from people you trust and admire. I couldn’t have done this without my coach.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I lost most of the 100 in seven months. I spent the rest of the time changing my body composition and building muscle.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes! So many!! My confidence level skyrocketed! I love to shop! I love to take pictures! I have loved watching the peoples lives around me change due to me changing and I love how much stronger I got from strength training. I love how much i smile and I love my life. I experience life in such a different way and I am now a coach in the program that I began in! I get so many inboxes from people that tell me they have watched my journey and have been inspired which means the most because all I have ever wanted to do was help other people believe that they can do this too.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My daily diet is a 180 from before. Before I ate fast food, gas station treats, chocolate junk food. You name the bad food I ate it and bought it all day every day. I know meal prep for the entire week on the weekends mostly and I eat clean 90/10. I eat only fresh and frozen food and stay away from all processed food. I choose an off plan meal and treat once a week to enjoy but it would be more like 80/20 if I wasnt training for a particular goal.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I workout 6x a week right now and strength train fro an hour in superset form and also do HIIT workouts and cardio. Before I hardly worked out and may 2 x a week. I have grown so manly levels with this area. I now consider myself an athlete.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- I had accountability-always have accountability
- I envisioned during hard times and when i arrived at the gym what I wanted to look like and the body I wanted to be in- t his helped me when i was tired struggling and not feeling it.
- I meal prep on the weekends so Im not scrambling during the week
- I keep my before pics on my phone so when I begin to critque the body I have now I remember where i came from
