WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

After I got married and had 3 children. I got comfortable with life and started focusing not on myself anymore.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was not the mother or the wife I needed to be for my family. I worked full-time then I would make excuses not to play with my kids. All my extra time was sleeping. I was always the center of attention but I used my weight as a “joke” I hid the true feelings and depression on how I felt by always joking about it.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My 6yr old son, looked up at me one day and just asked out of the blue, “Mommy why are you fat?” I then saw myself through his eyes and just started asking myself that. There was no reason for it besides just becoming lazy.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I joined a fitness bootcamp that I’m still a member of 6yrs ago. This group cheered me on when I couldn’t run, they waited for me, they pushed me and even when I got laid off from my job, they financially supported my membership to continue, until I got back on my feet. They saw in their eyes I gave it my best ever time I came to class and they didn’t want to see me fail. I saw this as a sign that if these strangers I just met would not let me fail, I could not and will not let myself fail.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started losing 5lbs a week. I lost about 30 Pounds in 2 months.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I couldn’t run, I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t do a push-up. It was hard, and at times I felt ashamed I had let myself get this way. I played sports growing up and was not over weight so to be this way was a bit much for me.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes, After losing the 150lbs I felt like I was done and there was no more for me to challenge myself with. However this is not it! I now want to put on major muscle tone and that is, for me a lot harder then the weight loss. I saw success almost weekly with losing weight on the scale, but it takes a bit more time for the muscle to grow.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I did hit plateaus and I would look at my journal and tweak it. I would change up what I ate or I added more exercise.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took 1 1/2 years to loose 150lbs

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
At times yes. However I saw that the inches and my clothes were changing. I would take new pictures every new outfit I was able to fit in.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I learned a lot about food and what was inside of food. I learned to eat 6 times a day and to eat Fresh. I don’t eat processed foods or fast foods. Now once in awhile I might have something small. I don’t agree with “Not” allowing yourself to enjoy food, I do agree with learning what foods can do for your body and don’t think of it as a diet or a you can’t do something verses this is a life change and you can.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I workout continue 3 days a week with my bootcamp class. We focus on Lower Body, Upper Body, and 1 day of full body cardio with boxing. We flip tires in the sand, we run with sand bags, push-ups, crunches, etc. Also for my next level of this Healthy Life. I also go to the gym and lift weight 3 days a week. Shoulder/Biceps/Chest one day, Triceps/Back day two and Legs. My favorite activity is Boxing day. I love the full body cardio.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Taking Selfies!! I would look in the mirror for the longest time and not see the weight loss. But when I would take a selfie I was able to see what everyone else saw.
  2. I ate off my toddlers plate. Mind of Matter. I thought I had a full plate of food when actually it was half the size of portions I use to eat.
  3. Share your success, You never know who is watching.
  4. I created a Meal Prep Clip on Sundays called
    “PMS”
    “prep meals sunday”
  5. I also started my own title of
    Life_After_150Follow my journey after the loss of 150lbs.
