WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have always had a weight problem as long as I can remember. I do remember it being a bit worse in my teen years, which I later found out I have PCOS so I do carry most of my weight in my hips.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I often stayed home on my computer instead of going out. I turned down activites because, “fat girl’s don’t do that.”
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I teach sever and profound special education and I was given a younger age class that need a lot of work and physical therapy on the floor. There was one day I was working with a student on the floor and I realized that if I was needed in another place in the room whether to help another student or to assist with a student’s behavior at my size I couldn’t effectively do it in a timely manner because getting off the floor was a workout! After realizing this I knew I needed to do something about my weight and quick because I love my job so much.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I decided to return to Weight Watchers.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I saw results after about the first month when I noticed a change in my energy.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I still don’t like exercise. But I know it’s a needed part of it and when I get my raise this summer I am going to join the gym that has a pool so I can swim laps instead of walking on the treadmill.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I have given up before, I refuse to give up this time around because I need to succeed this time for my job.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit a 3 month plateau but I just keep going because I knew that one day my body would give it up and stop the up 4 pounds down 4 pounds.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me 16 months to loose 102.6 pounds, I still want to loose 61 more pounds.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes, I found a wonderful gentlemen because I did start getting out more. And a month ago also joined weight watchers with me.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My diet looks pretty similar I have just changed my portion size and I have added my fruit to my diet.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I feel better and get outside a lot more and do a lot more activities with my friends because being fat is no longer my excuse.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Take it one meal at a time.
- You didn’t get fat over night, your’re not going to loose it over night.
- Learn on your support system.
- Still treat yourself with foods you love.
- Find what works for you, not every program works for every person.
