Great success story! Read before and after fitness transformation stories from women and men who hit weight loss goals and got THAT BODY with training and meal prep. Find inspiration, motivation, and workout tips | Ed, Lori and Kyle Olson A family that lost a total of 375 pounds, gaining a lifestyle of good health and wellness! In December of 2009, my husband, Ed saw an interview with Dr. David Kessler, promoting his book, “The End of Overeating”. We had struggled with our weight our whole lives, and had tried many diets over the years. When Ed saw this interview, he decided to read the book. Dr. Kessler’s book explains that we are food addicts and that we are addicted to salt, sugar and fat. He has some recommendations
regarding what we should be eating and how we can treat our food addiction. Ed began walking each day, watching his portions, and making healthier choices where food was concerned. He started losing weight and feeling better.

I watched the changes Ed made over the next few months. In the beginning, I was mad! Not mad at Ed, but mad at myself. I knew that I was obese and I also knew that it was starting to affect my health. My blood pressure was high and so was my cholesterol. Walking up the stairs left me breathless and I suffered from body aches. I had a hard time fitting into chairs and booths, movie theater seats, and finding clothing that fit. I decided to try this new way of living, even though I was so afraid of failing. The first thing I did was clean out my fridge and pantry. I got rid of all the processed, fatty foods that fed my food addiction. I replaced these foods with whole grains, lean proteins, fresh veggies and fruit, beans, and healthy fats such as avocados, nuts and seeds. I began walking on a treadmill four days a week, for 20 minutes at a time. The first six weeks were hell, but I kept going. I began losing weight and gaining more energy.

About this time, our son, Kyle also began eating better and watching his portions. He had been a member at a local gym for sometime and really enjoyed weight lifting. He decided that if he was going to put all this time and hard work into weight lifting, it made no sense to not be able to see the muscle that was covered in fat.

At the end of one year, I had lost 99 pounds. I had worked up to walking 3 miles a day, six days a week, on the treadmill. I became bored with the treadmill and decided to try a different means of exercise. I found Leslie Sansone on Exercise TV and began her walk at home program. I loved how easy it was to follow Leslie’s program, which consists of cardio and strength training. I was able to lose another 54 pounds in the following year, bringing my total pounds lost to 153, going from 298 pounds, to 145 pounds. I was honored to meet Leslie this past March and be included in the 5 Mega Miles DVD!

Ed lost a total of 140 pounds in an 18 month period of time, going from 310 pounds, to 170 pounds. He no longer suffers from acid reflux or hip and joint pain. This is the first time in his life that he has ever been thin. He not only walks, but he jogs!

Kyle was able to lose 87 pounds over a two year period, going from 245 pounds to 158 pounds, and is now a competitive body builder, placing 1st, just a few weeks ago, in the 2013 NGA Northwest Natural show, Novice division, in Boise, Idaho! He definitely stole the show when he proposed to his now fiancé, Whitney, up on stage!

We are led to believe by all the commercials and ads, that we need to follow a fad diet or use pills and cleanses in order to lose weight. We are also led to believe that weight loss is fast and easy, with very little work on our part, if we use these products. Ed works as a Pharmacist and is asked several times a week by customers, which over the counter diet aids work. He tells them that none of them work and then shares his story.

I have become a firm believer that eating right and exercise is the best “medicine” out there. My cholesterol level at my last Doctor’s appointment was 112! It used to run around 225.

Ed and I started living a Vegan lifestyle after watching a very good documentary, “Forks over Knives”, a few months ago. We had both lost our taste for meat and decided to exclude it, along with dairy, from our diet. People may think we are too strict with our eating or that we are obsessed, but I think if you really want to be successful, this is what it takes. We look at food in a whole different way now. We now use food to fuel our bodies.

I’ve been asked how I was able to go from being a food addict to having such a great mindset, and being able to stick with this lifestyle. I will always be a food addict, but I have discovered that I have the power to not let my addiction run my life. Having Ed and Kyle make these changes as well, has definitely made it much easier. At this point (3 1/2 years), my healthy lifestyle has become habit. I was so unhealthy when I was heavy, which made everyday life difficult. Remembering that life, and comparing it to my current life, keeps me on track.

We have been fortunate to have our story shared in a local newspaper, two local news channels, The Huffington Post, and Dr. Oz. I love sharing our story with others and the feedback I get from people I have helped, is amazing. The most important thing I can tell others is to believe in yourself….you are SO much stronger than you think!
