WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve been over weight my whole life, being the chubby nice girl, became a part of who I was. And I thought maybe that’s the way it’s always going to be .
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I got with my husband when I was 19, when I turned 21 I was at my heaviest . I had health problems and between all that I was told that because of my weight I would never be able to have kids.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When I heard that from my doctor, I was eye opening for me. I thought what makes those girl different from me? Why can they do it and I cant? And the answer was nothing! I had the power to change my life .
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by walking. Then slowly adding cardio. Then my diet changed drastically. I ate smaller portions, but never deprive myself from anything. I kept me from ever over eating in a binge .
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I saw results within 40 days. I say it in my closthes. I noticed it in face.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I had to over come looking at myself through new eyes. I would still see myself as that over weight chubby girl, even when the clothes were different and so was the refection. My mind would still point out my flaws . Once I lost 120 I started hearing from my mom that I was to skinny and I look sick, and that stopped me. But at the time it was ok , because I was ready to start my family.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Being a lazy girl at heart, of course I did. I would always think, well that lifestyle is easier , and after God blessed me with my son it was definitely more convenient . I took a break for almost two years and I gained 40 pounds back. But no more, my son is not my excuse , he’s my motivation!
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes, I would see the scale stay at the same 5-10 pounds and it’s would frustrate me,but in stead of giving up I would change my routine. I would challenge my body, by doing a different workout , and a different diet.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I took me 2 1/2 years to loose 120. And it took me 2 years to gain 40.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I became confident. I was happy with who I saw in the mirror . There was no better feeling then just throwing something on and you loving how it fit your body, everytime .
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I would eat fast food, hardly any vegetables , mostly processed. Now everyone is based around protien and veggies.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I have way more energy. I can keep up with my growing son .
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Set small goal monthly, they keep you going when you want to give up.
- Keep your diet fresh, and by that I mean change it up, so you don’t get bored with healthy food.
- Try different exercise , you will be surprise what you end up enjoying .
- Get a workout buddy, or someone who holds u accountable . They will help you stay in line and get your workout in.
- Don’t always count on the scale to tell you what a great job your doing, if you feel better, what does it matter what number it says. Keep going!
