WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. my earliest memories are of me being bigger and taller than my peers. I have always been self conscious about my weight but it wasn’t until I was in highschool wearing a 16/18 that I realized it was a big issue. Still I remained overweight because I did not know how to lose weight or if I even could.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight has held me back from so many opportunities because I didn’t want to meet people. Even being active at my children’s school was put on the back burner because I was scared of embarrassing my girls. I’m so thankful for my new life because opportunities are flowing and they can’t keep me out of the school these days!

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My turning point was when I became depressed, suffered from anxiety, migraines, and I felt like I was losing myself. I knew that I didn’t want to miss out on being a mom and I know my girls deserved a healthy mommy. Because my girls were the reason for me needing to be healthy I knew failure was not an option because I could not, would not, and did not let them down.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I starting with a 10 day detox that I designed for myself And share in my free fit camp on Facebook, Healthy Homiez Fit Camp. The first 3 days were rough while I withdrew from processed and sweet foods. By day 7 I felt amazing, like I was already lighter on my feet.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I weight myself the night before I started and I was 288 lbs I did not weigh in again until after my detox. So by day 11 I was already 19 lbs down!! I knew there was no turning back.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Since I was a new vegan my biggest challenge was what to eat. I had no clue what I was doing but I researched and learned while I was in it. I knew the basics but that’s it. It was always a challenge when eating out because believe it or not everyone does not offer a vegan option which is sad.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I wanted to give up but it was not an option for me. My little girls needed a healthy mommy and I was determined to give them just that.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes I’ve hit a few plateaus throughout my journey. I typically do my detox for 3-5 days and increase my cardio to bust through it.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I lost 100 lbs in 10 months!

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes! Being able to go “shopping” in my little sister’s closet was the biggest victory I think. Although she hates it I’m still excited 🙂

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
my diet now does not compare to my old diet in the least. My old diet consisted of meaty, cheesy, creamy, sugary foods mixed Lots of juice and soda. My new lifestyle is plant based with lost of fruits, veggies, and water!

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I was not active at all previously. When I started my journey I worked out only at home for about 30-45 min a day. I started going to the gym when lost 100 lbs I can say now I’m a gym rat and I love it. I typically stay in the gym for 1-3 hours Monday-Friday because my goals have changed from losing weight to now building muscle.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Water, water, and more water!
  2. Make sure your reason for wanting to be successful means everything to you and you won’t fail!
  3. Detox your body befor you start. A detox put your body back in nuetral and allows you to refuel it with good “stuff”.
  4. Move your body everyday. Walk, dance, run, gym, workout dvd’s, anything as long as you’re moving!
  5. Don’t allow yourself to quit. It’s not over until you stop. So don’t stop until you’re done!
