WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

My weight problem started when I was 16 just after my parents separated. Food became my comfort and support! I yoyo’d up and down until I got pregnant at 20 and packed on 90 lbs during my pregnancy the yoyoing continued through my 20s never really reaching a healthy weight and always doing crash diets I could never maintain. Add in 2 more pregnancies with over 60lbs of weight gain each as well as gestational diabetes. After my third child I also suffered from Postpartum depression/anxiety which caused me to gain more weight and fall into a deeper depression. My health both mental and physical were suffering severely and I was only 29

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I had no energy my house was constantly out of sorts because i lacked any motivation to do anything. I suffered from chronic sciatica and lower back pain that somedays was completely debilitating and after my third baby I suffered from Postpartum depression and anxiety and hated myself and the way I looked I became the heaviest I had ever been not pregnant and my life was spiralling out of control along with my weight I was in a dark place mentally and isolating myself from people.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I started my weight loss journey after seeing a video of myself dancing with my kids. I was mortified and completely embarrassed at myself I couldn’t believe I had let my weight get so out of control! That night I ridded my cupboards of all the crap and started my weightloss journey

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
When I first started my journey I cleared my cupboards of all trigger food and started walking for atleast an hour a day as well as started portion controlling my meals and following weight watchers.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started noticing change in the scale right away I lost about 7lbs the first week and kept steady at about 2 lbs a week. My clothes were becoming looser within the first week and my self confidence was increasing every pound I shed! I lost 12 lbs my first month of eating healthy and walking daily.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My biggest challenge was battling my mental excuses and a baby who hated napping! I felt like I never had time to exercise or walk and that eating healthy was tontime consuming but in reality I had plenty of time during the day that I was spending eating junk food, watching tv and browsing social media. I had to stop with so many excuses and just get up and do something whether the baby slept or not.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I’ve given up so many times I told myself when I started that this time would be different! I made sure to track my weightloss with pictures and taking my measurements and every time I lost an inch or looked at my old pictures and saw how far I’d come it motivated me to keep going and not go back to where I used to be!

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
My weightloss has been pretty steady and any plateaus I may have hit I knew that my eating was off and I wasn’t portion controlling properly as soon as I adjusted those things I would move over the plateau.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me 8 months to lose the weight!

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I have abs!! Who would’ve ever thought after 3 kids stretched out skin and stretch marks that I could tighten my tummy and have abs! I have had so many more as well I’m a size 4/6 which I haven’t been since I was in grade 9, I have muscles I never even New existed, mentally I’m so much happier my Postpartum depression has subsided greatly, I have tons of energy and have zero back pain anymore I could go on and on!

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I was an emotional binge eater. I would eat bags of chips to myself and was constantly driving through fast food places because my depression had made me so unmotivated to cook, clean or function as a mom

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I first started exercising I bought a Fitbit and loved the motivation of getting in my 10,000 steps and competeing with my family. The weather was beautiful and walks were easy as my oldest kids were in school and my baby still loved being carried in her Carrier well I walked. Working out wasn’t an option for me at first my baby was a bad sleeper and never napped for more then 15-20mins unless I slept with her and I had to many excuses I wasn’t ready mentally. Once the weight started to come off and I felt more confident and my baby napped better I started doing at home DVD workouts. I loved them so much and I was seeing amazing results and quick! I continue to workout 30 minutes at my home every day!

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Meal Plan/prep always! One of my fave quotes is “Failing to plan is planning to fail” and it’s so true when I already know a week a head of time what I’m going to be eating it takes the guessing game out of what should I eat for lunch or dinner it’s planned and prepared for me to grab on the go or sit and enjoy.
  2. Reward yourself! Losing weight and exercising is hard work and I love shopping! Every 10lbs I lost I bought myself something new in a smaller size it motivated me to keep going, tracked my progress because the new item I bought each month was to big for me by the end of the next month and it was nice to spend some money on me and not just my kids
  3. Always keep a non perishable protein snack in your car. I can’t tell you how many times I used to go out get hungry and just drive thru somewhere for a snack. Now I always keep nuts, granola bars, or other healthy snacks in my car so if I am out for longer then expected or I do get a craving to drive thru I just eat a snack I have In the car and drive by!
