WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
All my life I was always the bigger one in school.. My family is all big so it was just normal… I played sports and was active but always was the big girl…
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight was in the way of everything as a child I was to big to play certain games, always picked last cuz ur the slowest one.. Seat belts didn’t fit when we would go on class trips and parents drove us… The rides at the carnivals I couldn’t ride… In high school we had to wear uniforms and I remember my mom stressing over having to have mine custom made it’s very expensive…when I had my daughter the dr said I’d never carry her full term… When I did have her it was a horrific experience for both her and I and it was because of my weight…
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I was a single mom since my daughter was 4 months old.. I was so focused on providing and making ends meat that it was much more affordable and quicker to eat fast food… (I never dreamed of my daughter ending up how I was)..she looked up to me saying I wanna be just like you mom.. All I thought was no no no please dear god don’t let her end up like me.. I was a bakery manager and she loved that her mom decorated cakes however I wasn’t looking at that I was looking at my appearance…When she was 7 we were at an amusement park and my daughter said to me “mom I wish you could ride the rides with me”.. That was my moment, I always knew I had to go something I’m not dumb however hearing my daughter say it to me is what I needed.. I broke down crying then she started crying cuz she thought she hurt my feelings, I explained to her no she did not hurt me I told her thank you.. I needed that… I made her a promise in 1 year I’d be riding those same rides.. I looked into everything out there and weight watchers was the only thing I knew would help me, on 1/3/13 I started weighing 426.4 as of today I’m down to 272.8 and 1/20/14 I was on every ride with my daughter.. Her birthday was that weekend that was my gift to her she was the happiest I’d ever seen her!!!! I’m not done yet however my goal when I started was to ride these rides.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Right away, if following the plan faithfully it works, I also incorporate movement, 5-6 days a week 2-3 hrs
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The hardest part for me was to stop letting the scale define my mood… The scale can be evil.. Even though weight watchers has you weigh weekly I don’t.. I do however attend every meeting but I only weigh 1-2 times monthly.. Once I realized the inches show the inches matter the easier it was for me…
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes, however my daughter is my anchor.. I can not fail her, she thinks the world of me as I do her.. She’s learned so much at the age of 8 now she’s 9 about portion control measuring good fat vs bad fats etc
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes every now and then it happins, I just change up what I’m doing.. Try different excersizes you gotta shock your body so it don’t get comfy in what ur doing daily
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
The first 100 I lost in 10 months… The more you lose the harder it gets to lose so yes it slowed down
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Omg yes! I can wear my seat belt in car.. I fit in booths at restraunts.. I can ride those rides with my daughter with no extender belts!.. I can jog 3 miles straight now(when I started I could only walk 15min) I can cross my leg, tie my shoe with no problem.. Take a real bath not a shower cuz I was to big to take baths.. I can ride a bike now.. Literally living a brand new life
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I eat regular foods I just don’t eat as much.. Breakfast now is scrambled egg beaters with mixed peppers an onions with 2oz ham with avacado fresh fruit an Greek yogurt.. Lunch would be salad with grilled chicken or tuna with fresh fruits dinner is ground turkey maybe stuffed in bell peppers… The biggest thing that has changed is I cook nearly every meal.. Lotts of fresh fruit and veggies and I eat more often day vs I use to eat one big buffet meal daily…
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I started I could only walk 15 min at a time… I increased lil by lil… It’s takin over a year but now I’m at up to 3 hrs cardo
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Don’t weigh urself daily, don’t let the number control you..
- Change things up, don’t eat the same foods all the time.. Or do the same excersize everytime your body will get comfy
- Drink lotts of water, I put grapefruit in mine it’s a very good fat burner
- Don’t commit to a “diet” but change ur daily ways of living… We all know diets don’t last long term but changing ur lifestyle does
- If you have a bad meal or bad day even a bad week never best urself up over it don’t throw in the towel cuz of it… Just start fresh on the next meal… Or get a good nights sleep and wake up ready to start again… Second changes will be there just don’t give up once you learn that your worth it you’ll start to be ur own best friend and be in control
