POUNDS LOST : 90

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
A few days before my 21st birthday my grandmother passed away unexpectedly. It weighed on me both mentally and physically. I was very depressed and in turn packed on quite a bit of weight.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was very depressed for a few years after my grandma passed. My weight gain didn’t help any. I was always tired and had no energy to do anything.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
In June 2015 my mom told me she wanted to take me to grandma’s favorite Hawaiian island to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of her passing which is in January. I really didn’t want to be on the beach looking the way I did. I knew I wouldn’t be able to hike or do anything fun.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I decided to see a weight a management Dr. He helped me set a goal weight and helped me get started on what foods I should and shouldn’t be eating.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Come January when I was looking in the mirror at myself in this high top bikini I realized wow, I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. At this point I had reach my 50 pound weight loss goal. It felt amazing. And the rear of my trip was the best trip ever .

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Financially it was very hard in the beginning but with meals planned ahead of time and budgeting each check I became a lot easier to financially change my life style.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
It was so rough in the beginning. All my self confidence was starting to fade and I wasn’t sure if I’d overcome it or if I’d be able to keep going. So I gave it to our Lord. I prayed for him to take the hunger away, kept trying my hardest daily, and in turn he gave me all the will power I needed.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
There were times when I wasn’t really losing much of anything and that was hard mentally. I felt like I was doing something wrong. I set reminders throughout the house and work to help keep me motivated and in good spirits.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I lost my first goal weight of 50 pounds in 6 months. In one year I have lost 90 pounds!

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
In December 2015 my boyfriend proposed! And after Hawaii in early February I went dress shopping and found my dream dress. Earlier in July I had my first fitting. My dress was 2 sizes too big on me. Of course the coat of alterations sucked, but I felt so victorious! I wasn’t even trying to lose more than an additional 15 pounds and was down 30 more pounds! Unbelievable. I felt so beautiful all pinned up in my dress.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Before I’d eat whatever I wanted without a care. Today, not so much. I changed my daily life style of what I put in my body so now junk food gives me a tummy ache. I eat a lot of protein, drink nothing but water ever, and limit my carbs.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I have so much more enegery and I feel so healthy. Its incredible. My sex life is even better than it was before, I am so much more social and willing to try new things and I am able to try things I’ve always wanted to try.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Love yourself. Accept you for the wonderful woman or man you are on the inside. The outside can be altered.
  2. Remind yourself daily this isn’t a diet but a life change. You’re changing your health for the better. Diets end. Life changes are forever.
  3. Drink a lot of water! So much water you could fill your bath tub with it at the end of the week! Lol. I cut out all liquids even coffee.
  4. Protein! It’s your best friend! Eat and drink lots and lots of protein! Daily! Make sure you include your veggies and a little bit of good fats and little to no carbs.
  5. Dont lose faith! You can do it! You can do whatever you set your mind to. Leave notes around work and home to help keep you focused. Only you have the power alter your body.
