90 Pound Transformation in progress!
WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
When I was about 13 or so. I was never a small child but after that time I think anxiety and growing up made it hard to control weight.
NAME : Jamickia
BEFORE WEIGHT : 260
AFTER WEIGHT : 170
POUNDS LOST : 90
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I did shy away from social events and would always worry about what others thought. I would always get in the very back of pictures. I think my confidence fluctuated over the years affecting my relationship and livelihood.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I think the final straw was when I was on the flight and I couldn’t fit the first extension on the seatbelt. Having to ask for that caused major anxiety and embarrassment and I decided enough was enough!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I researched HIIT workouts, keto & carb cycling. I worked out at home a lot including inside, garage & backyard. This is where I started. I started carb cycling initially the first two weeks then added light exercise and progressed from there.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I noticed really noticeable changes in 3 months. After a few weeks however you will certainly start to feel more energized and less fatigued. Then it just goes on from there with more and more changes.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I had to overcome being borderline diabetic due to pcos but I am not anymore as of a year or so ago. I had to work through other pcos symptoms but exercise/weightloss have greatly decreased symptoms of anxiety, insulin issues, hair loss etc.
I learned to like running which I never did before. I had to overcome the thought of giving up like I had many times in the past. I had to overcome extreme cravings.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Clothes (buying new ones) and before and after pics. Positive self talk and family support.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I have had a few plateaus and have managed to get through them all. The biggest way is allowing for a rest day because sometimes the body is overworked. I also would completely change my workout routine for several weeks to keep the body guessing. I also don’t use the scale often so it helps to not discourage me. I would make sure to increase water as well.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Size 20-24 to a size 8
No more seatbelt issues
4XL to a size large/medium
Extreme belly fat loss
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I was an emotional/comfort eater and had been addicted to food for a very long time. I use to eat fried foods, all sugary foods and fast food. This was a daily thing for me. I would eat large portion sizes and would snack at night. I would also have to have a dessert with every meal. I would drink soda 3 times a day.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Now I am able to work out workout being out of breath like before. My strength has increased so much. I use to be out of breath when getting up or taking stairs but not anymore. I love HIIT workouts because they incorporate cardio and weight training to tone up. They keep me engaged. I love weight training now much more than in the past. I also love intermittent jogging at the park.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Chew sugar free gum for cravings.
- If I thought about working out I immediately changed so I couldn’t change my mind or talk myself out of it.
- I would mumble sayings to myself during workouts to get through it on those days I wanted to quit after 5 minutes.
- If I wanted a unhealthy snack I would drink a fresh veggie juice mix. It worked!
