WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
From middle school I’ve been heavy, always bigger than the other children. This constant insecurity caused me to isolate myself. The only time I felt comfortable socializing was when I depicted myself as “the party girl”. I’d rather be known for drinking and going out than for my weight. From then on out, my weight controlled my life.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
This constant insecurity caused me to isolate myself. I Hated myself so much that I couldn’t imagine anybody else feeling differently. The only time I felt comfortable socializing was when I reached high school and depicted myself as “the party girl”. I’d rather be known for drinking and going out than for my weight. From then on out, my weight controlled my life. It’s easy to pretend to be the happy silly friend, it was better than the fat friend.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When I got to the point where I was physically uncomfortable because of my excess fat was when I realized I needed to make a change.

I began with making healthy food choices and tracking my intake on my fitness pal.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The biggest challenge I had to overcome was my obsession with having the perfect body. When I began to see results and get compliments I loved it. It started an unhealthy obsession where I would cry if I ate anything off of my meal prep. It was taking over my life.

Most of my weight was lost in a year.

I went from a size 16 jean to an 8 in one year.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was very heavy I ate out every meal. Now, i prep all meals daily and snacks.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Compared to no exercise, I work out at least 5 times a week.

- Don’t go back to old habits just because you saw progress
- Don’t let your weight define you. You are more than your body and this journey.
- Remember what it is like to be heavier and live according to that feeling. Everybody is at a different place in their journey, be kind.
