71 Pounds Lost: From ”big bone” to fit and healthy

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
Have always been the chubby kid at school, but at 20 I seriously developed weight problem. I used to eat a lot of everything, anyway I was said to be a big bone. If it was not having junk food it was huge amount of healthy food. I managed to go to the gym at least 3 times per week but never seemed to lose a single pound.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Became less and less confident, very conscious of my image though I didnt really realise how heavy I got till I walked away from a previous relationship
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I could not get dressed in any stores I liked and I had enough of carrying my bulky body
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by drinking green tea regularly. I lost around 11 lbs quite easily at the beginning so I started watching what I ate and drink. I also started eating small meals instead of 3 big meals and gradually changed my lifestyle by consuming lesser carbs and more lean protein and lots of vegetables. I made sure to eat everything I liked as it was no more a diet but a way of living. I never felt miserable dieting as i often allowed myself to cheat meals. I started working out seriously after I lost around 30 pounds 3 – 5 times per week. Gradually I melted but soon started hitting weight loss plateaus.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I lost the first 30 pounds quite easily, after 5 months.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I often stopped due to life events but it was only a pause.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I had to increase my workout intensity to keep on losing. I am still a work in progress
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
one and a half year
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
My clothes fit me so much better now, i have leaner legs, i can see my collar bones and scale is no more of such an importance as long as I feel healthy and full of energy
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Less carbs for dinner. 5 small meals with very little fat added in my cooking, I prefer wholewheat pasta.
Lots of vegies, fruits, fish, lean meat
I have chocolate, biscuits, ice cream during the day rather than night.
I snack on dried fruits, smoothies, mostly no soda and i have alcohol on occasions
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I do HIIT workout mostly all the time now. I often park far from where i have to go, so I can walk more. I am obviously less tired in doing any physical activity.
When I was heavier it was always more difficult to to workout as i was tired more easily.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Have a cheat meal every now and then so as to stay focus in the long run
- It is a lifestyle not a diet
- Have green tea or any other teas which will boost your weight loss and at the same time benefit from the rest of teas’ advantages
