WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
All my life I have been overweight due to my love for snacking and unhealthy foods like cake mix and chips. I always tried weightloss fads and plans but always gained the weight back on again and would just eat less of the same bad foods.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I would try to be confident but would be constantly rejected and I knew it was partly due to my weight. I couldn’t love myself until I loved my body.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I finally gave up on restrictive diets of junk food and just decided on the spot to get healthier and get the body I wanted.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started going to the gym and committed simply to one gym session a week at first. Food wise, I simply reduced my snacking and ate smaller portions and eventually I ate healthier foods and cut back on the junk and amount of snacking I did. It was a gradual process but I got used to it after a while as my stomach shrunk and I just kept eating better and less.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Immediately I saw results. The idea that I had no restrictions allowed me to think for myself and make decisions that I knew I wouldn’t regret later. The kilos started coming off gradually but we’re always steady as I never gave up or let a bad week make me quit.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I never have eaten fruit and have hated it my whole life, but today I am getting called out on for always eating all of the fruit in the house. It’s my main snack now and I love it and would eat it for every meal if I could.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I was constantly seeing results which only made me always want to keep going. Even when I went on a cruise and holiday for a month, I managed to come home with a weightloss from determination and sensible decisions.
I have gone through years of giving up on diets and I had realised this was my life and you couldn’t quit on a lifestyle.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Occasionally I’d spend a month with my weight barely moving so all I did was change something in my life like taking up an excercise or adjusting my snacks. This always did the trick.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I lost the weight over just a year. I started the journey on April 28th 2015 and reached my lowest on May 11th 2016. I am now trying to maintain.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yeah I took up rowing which was huge for me because I hate excercise but I found it was just my thing. I also have a majorly clean diet now with no processed foods and only the occasional raw slice or organic cake because it’s just what my body craves now rather then store bought stuff full of additives.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I am now eating clean with most days no sugar or salt and I stick to whole grains, never refined unless I’m out with friends where I still make the most balanced and nutritious decision for my body. I eat mostly vegetables and fruit because it’s what I love.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I go to the gym at 6am twice a week to fit it in and keep active when I can.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Eat real foods. Cook at home instead of buying pre made food because it’s so much better for your body.
  2. Fit in some excercise. A little goes a long way.
  3. Eat fruit. I lovvvve fruit and eat it all the time. It is great for your skin and is so sweet and delicious.
  4. Don’t give up. Platued can always be overcome and one bad week does not mean you’ve failed so keep going cause the ones who succeed never gave up.
  5. Change your entire lifestyle. Don’t diet, change your habits because that’s the only way you’ll really keep off the weight for good.
