WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

Ever since I was a child I remember being overweight. My Great Aunt & Great Uncle took care of me a lot as a child & they always wanted to feed me, anything I wanted they would make. I believe that is where the root of my weight problem came in.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight has affected more aspects of my life than I can put into words.. The biggest way it has affected me has been in my self confidence. When you walk around with a lack of confidence EVERYONE can tell. It made me give up on myself, my appearance & those closest to me.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I was heavier than I had ever been.. I was ashamed with myself & simple tasks like walking to the corner store became difficult. I guess I just woke up one day & knew something had to give, I went to my local gym signed up for a gym membership & took body pump that day.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
After I got my gym membership I promised myself I would be consistent & I would go to the gym daily until I needed a break. I went for 47 days straight & that is what taught me that I had it in me, that this was no longer just a pipe dream, but a reality.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
My first month I lost 8lbs. I truly did not notice a true difference in my body until I lost about 25-30lbs.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My biggest challenges would have to be lack of funds & temptation. I live with my boyfriend, I make him 2-3 meals a day that are mostly unhealthy items we also have a constant flow of snacks: cookies, ice cream, chips, sweet breads, candies, anything you name it.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
There are days when the last thing I want to do is put forth effort, I wanna lay in bed, be lazy and do nothing.. Somedays I hate eating healthy and working out but I remind myself of my goal, my goal is what motivates me and keeps me going.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I went from 240 to 197 so easily I was thinking this whole journey was going to be a piece of cake then I hit a stall. I was going between 197-190 for two months it was so discouraging. I overcame my stall by pick up spin, an indoor cycling class. It is an hour long class in which I typically burn 600 calories, it was the exact push I needed to get back in the right direction.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I am coming up on my 7th month on this journey & my weightloss has been fairly steady almost 8-10lbs lost monthly. I still have about 40-45lbs left to lose.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I love non-scale victories, my favorite ones so far this journey have been finally being able to cross my legs when sitting & being able to finally for into a size 10 jean.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I ate out 3 meals a day fast food, sandwich shops, Chinese food, anything I wanted. Now I prepare most of my own meals eggs & protein for breakfast, cheese & meats for lunch, and typically I allow myself to have a small portion of what I make for my boyfriend for dinner for my dinner as well. (I’m all about unhealthy foods in moderation)

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I had a desk job & the most I did was walk my dogs maybe a 1/4 mile daily. Now I aim to workout 5x a week for at least an hour.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. “The better option” this is how I eat. I tend to still eat out a bit due to a busy life but I always choose “the better option” if I’m eating fast food & I’ll still order the burger I want but I’ll get it wrapped in lettuce instead or opt for a salad option.
  2. Keep your workout routine consistent & fun. Regardless if I have a bad day of eating I always make sure I go to the gym it makes me question my food choices and usually keeps me on track.
