WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I began gaining weight when I was eight years old. I was always “chubby” compared to other kids my age and always felt out of place.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight impacted my life in more ways than I realized. Being overweight I never felt comfortable. I became antisocial since I was too embarrassed with myself to go out, meet new people, or take photos.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I always wanted to change. I always dreamed of how my “thin” self would look. I just never gave my self my all.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I got started by working out, eating healthy, and learning about supplements. I came to terms with the fact that there was no easy quick fix, and that this was going to be for the long haul!
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
After my first month of staying dedicated I lost 13lbs. Seeing the scale move to my efforts was a big deal and motivated me to keep going.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My biggest challenge was my diet. Junk food and fast food were the only type of food I would eat. It’s what I craved and loved. Breaking those habits were the most difficult, but little by little I gained self-control and will power. Yay!
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I gave up on my weight loss journey so many times before actually committing. After taking steps forward, committing and seeing results I hardly had thoughts about calling it quits all together. Of course there are days when I don’t want to workout, or eat clean.. and if I feel I deserve it I don’t and then get right back on track. This has become my lifestyle and when I do feel like I’m falling off I remember the hard work and effort I already put in and that keeps me going.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I have hit so many plateaus in my journey. Things that were once so hard become easy and my body doesn’t change when it’s not being challenged. Everytime I hit a plateau I evaluate my current routine and see where I have room for improvement or space to challenge myself more.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I have been on my weight loss journey for 11 months. I’m sure I could’ve done it faster, or better.. but I wanted to make sure my mind was changed as much as my body. My new mindset has been the most rewarding.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Non-scale victories are my favorite! The most memorable one I have is one day I went to American Eagle to return a top. Just randomly I thought “hm let me try on some size 4 jeans just to see how far I am from the fitting” (my current jeans were fitting lose) I imagined they would stop at my thighs since I had always been size 12-14. When I tugged and pulled and got them up AND BUTTONED I looked in the mirror and cried. I just sobbed in those size 4 jeans in shock, happiness, reminiscing through all the battles I had fought to sit there in a size 4.. just so many emotions.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My diet is complete opposite from before. From everything fried to now everything fresh.
