WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
My entire life I was always known as the chubby girl. I was born a fat baby and since then I was never thin. As a young child I always knew I was bigger than all my little friends but I never thought anything of it until I got older.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight made me feel very insecure, especially when I got to high school. I felt uncomfortable going to pool parties or eating in front of guys.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The moment that spiked my weight loss journey was in september of my sophomore year in high school. I was invited to a halloween party and all my friends at the time wanted to wear an extremely revealing costume that was very short and showed way too much skin! I looked in the mirror after seeing the costume they all agreed on and broke down. I knew I could not live like this for a second longer. It was time for me to change my ways.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
The first thing I did was a delivery diet called Lean Chefs. It was great! They delivered three fresh meals and two snacks to my house every single day. I did this from the end of september all the way up to around Christmas.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
My first week I lost 4.8 pounds. After that I started loosing about two pounds a week and then down to one pound a week. My weight loss was a very long process, I did not loose a lot quickly.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
When I first began I hated exercise. I hated every single sport because I have literally no athletic ability. Now, my favorite place in the world is Lifetime Fitness and my favorite part of the day is going to work out. Another challenge I had to overcome was that I began to obsess over food. I became so worried about calories and nutritional information that I started to restrict my self. I learned that restriction is very unhealthy and will not benefit you in the long run.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
No, never. I have a poster in my room that says “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” – Kate Moss and it is completely true. What keeps me going is the confidence I developed during my weight loss. I accomplished something all on my own, something hundreds of thousands of people try to do and fail at.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit my first plateau about two months after starting my diet and hoped it would just blow over but after another month I decided to switch my diet and try Weight Watchers. It definitely did work but I hit another plateau a few weeks later and thats when I discovered the miracle worker… Nutrisystem!!!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about a year and a half.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Clothing shopping is a whole new world when you’re thin! Fitting in to smaller jean sizes and dresses is an amazing feeling. Just the other day, I bought size 24 denim shorts and could not stop smiling in the mirror as I remember I was once a size 31

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My daily diet is infested with fruits and veggies. I used to skip breakfast and now it is my favorite and biggest meal of the day. When I was heavier I would eat a ton of candy and sugary snacks after school. Now I eat an apple. I always used to go for seconds and sometimes even thirds now, I am very aware of portion control and eat the correct amount at each meal. I even have a food scale where I weigh all my food.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I now work out all the time and I actually enjoy it. I also love walking with my friends or my mom when it’s nice out. I used to never enjoy these activities when I was heavier and preferred to stay inside.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Only weigh yourself twice a week (I weigh in on Sundays and Wednesdays) that way you do not become obsessed with the number and focus more on eating healthy.
  2. It takes time… don’t give up! It’s been almost two years since I began this journey trust me the results are worth waiting for.
  3. If unsure of what to do, try Nutrisystem. Life changer!
