WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

From an early age, as soon as puberty hit, the weight just seemed to pile on me.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
It’s really affected my ability of being a good mum to my five year old daughter. I would get tired out doing things with her, anything energetic and I would really struggle. I needed to lose the weight and set a good example to her that being healthy is more important than eating all the sweet treats I was consuming.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
After Valentines Day of 2016, I saw a picture that was taken of me, and I was mortified to see how big I had gotten. I probably put on over a stone just over the Christmas period and more in between Christmas Day and Valentines Day. Unfortunately I deleted the picture, it would have made an unbelievably good before pic. But seeing myself like that gave me the motivation to want to lose the weight, and since shredding the pounds I’ve never felt happier.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I joined a SW group, which to me on that first day of joining was the scariest thing I had ever done. I felt fat and ashamed of how heavy I was, but my consultant Anna was literally my lifesaver, she has changed my life and made me see that I can lose the weight, all it takes is faith determination and courage.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I took a good 8 weeks before I saw any results, and that’s only because I was comparing myself on before and after pics. I can’t recommend enough to people to take before and after pics! They really do show your progress better than any other tool.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I hate exercising. Exercise to me is the hardest thing to do, I get bored with it and certainly do not get any enjoyment out of doing it. But the more you do it, the easy it does become. My biggest challenge though was breaking my relationship with food. I am one of those people that eats her feelings, if I’m sad I would make myself feel better with food. If I’m happy I would celebrate with food. Breaking the love affair I’d had with all foods that are bad for me was the greatest struggle I faced.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I have wanted to give up so many times and had it not been for the support around me, especially from my partner, I would have given up long ago and hated myself for giving up.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
No, I have consistently lost each week.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
So far it’s taken 26 weeks to lose 3st 10lb and I still have another 2st 3.5lb to go.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I have had so many non scale victories, from the before and after pics to my body measurements. They’re a great tool to keep you motivated through your weight loss, especially when the scales aren’t giving you the boost you need.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My diet had completely changed. Before you would never see me holding a piece of fruit or veg let alone eating them. I don’t touch any of the foods I ate before, I’m like a whole new person and would never go back to how I was before.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I am a lot more active now and can do so much more than I’ve ever been able to do.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Stay focused. Before you start your journey, write down all the reasons you want to lose weight and keep referring back to it whenever you feel you are losing focus. It will always get you back on track.
  2. Use non scale victories as often as you can. Constantly take photos during your journey so you can compare and see how far you are coming.
  3. Plan ahead. Don’t leave any meals to chance as it can have serious detrimental effects on your weight loss as you pick things that you wouldn’t usually out of hunger.
  4. Keep hydrated. Water is one of the best tools you can use to aid weight loss.
  5. Never give up.
