WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I started developing a weight problem around the age of 19 maybe 20.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
It got so bad some family members mad fun of me. I started dressing to hide the gain. I hid under stretch pants, sweaters and boots. People even asked if I was pregnant.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The final turning point for me was Thanksgiving 2015. We were all taking pictures and I stopped and looked at them. Although my outfit was nice, make up and hair were good; I was absolutely disgusted with how big I looked. I ate the smallest Thanksgiving dinner of my life that day.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Two days later, cramps and all. I dragged myself to the gym and I never looked back. I started with basic workouts.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I honestly noticed a difference within two weeks. I saw it in my face at first.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I did a lot of traveling and got sick like 2 or 3 times inthe first two months which obviously slowed me down.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I wouldn’t say I wanted to give up but I did feel bad when I couldn’t go as frequently as I planned. What kept me motivated was the new workout clothes and the progress pictures, the well wishes on social media, the compliments and assistance from my mom, the constant motivation/pushing an praise from my sisters and cousins. I loved that I was motivating others as well. I also feel better and stronger.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit maybe 3 plateaus. I did a 5 day eat clean diet, I started shakeology and I changed my workout routine. I did a cleanse with shakeology as well.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
Most of the weight took about 5 months because I didn’t go on a strict diet. I just ate healthier in moderation and more frequently.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes, I saved my old clothes so being able to get into a non stretch jean was awesome!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Not as much meat, nothing fried.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I am way more physical than before. I could workout 2-3 in one day now and before nothing.

- Take pictures!
- Don’t deprive yourself of good things.
- Eat in moderation.
- Surround yourself with people who are supportive and have the same or similar goals.
- Don’t give up!
