WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

After my first pregnancy I let myself go completely and gained more weight then I did when I was pregnant. When my son was 8 months old I got pregnant again. After giving birth to my second child I knew that I needed to do something. I’ve spent this year struggling to get healthy.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I think the biggest and scariest thing was that I couldn’t play with my kids, I was always so tired and out of breath. I knew I didn’t want to be the fat mom that couldn’t do things with my kids. I felt ugly and gross and it was making me a very negative person. I developed chronic pain, and gastritis due to high fat foods that I was eating

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When I sat down and ate an entire ‘family size’ bag of chips by myself in one sitting. I felt so disappointed in myself I knew if I didn’t do something and take control back I was never going to change.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I read alot!!! I read about food. I read about exercise. I found a ton of amazing people on Instagram that had the same struggles as me, and I knew if they could do it, so could I!

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
When I got back to a size 12 Jean that moment I was kinda in disbelief and shock… but also so proud of myself. After my second pregnancy I was to embarrassed to buy size 18 jeans that I wore my maternity pants until I could fit into a 16 (5 months pp)

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I’m pretty lucky that my husband is very supportive of all my efforts in this journey. I think my biggest challenge is motivation. I go through down times where I find myself not going to the gym as much or slipping up and eating things I really shouldn’t.. but I get it together and ask myself what is more important!?!

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes and no. Yes, when my whole family is enjoying greasy cheeseburgers and French fries and here I am with my veggies and turkey. But no because I want to be healthy more then I want a few fries.. don’t get me wrong, I eat fries still.. just alot less and I work hard for it. I think it’s all about balance.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes, I’m currently in one. Usually I switch it up and add in different workouts, and I eat alot leaner.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
Though 20lbs sounds so small.. I have literally fought to lose every single lbs. I thought I was going to start this journey in January of 2016… but I didnt. I got to down on myself a gave up less then a week in. So I didn’t officially start until July of 2016.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Oh, lots! Clothes being the biggest! I can fit back in clothes I never thought I’d be able to wear again. I have more confidence and I love when I can push myself ever farther in a workout. I get on the floor and play with my kids.. we run around the house and the park. In not extra tired any more.. or out of breath so much that I have to sit after a few minutes of playing. Every day is a NSV for me.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I used to eat processed foods every day. For almost every meal. Now I eat fresh foods little to no fat. Drink water all day. I cut out almost all red meat I only eat it once or twice a month. I’ve learned to modify old recipes to fit a healthier lifestyle.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
It went from sedentary to active. I used to sit on the couch all day and watch my kids play. Now I get on the floor and play. We play in the yard, we go for walks, we go on bike rides. I’m constantly moving now. Always doing something.

  1. Stay strong!
  2. It’s okay to start over more then once.
  3. Everyday is a new chance to get it right.
  4. Learn about the food your putting in your body.
  5. Find your little victories!!
