WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I had weight problems all my life. Even in high school i was a size 16. When i got married my wedding dress was a size 18 and it just went up for there.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My life revolved around my weight. Everything i did was because of my seize and everything i didn’t do was because of my size. I always felt embarrassed and that everyone was staring at me. It made me feel uncomfortable all the time. One of the most embarrassing moments of my life was at an amusement park. I was next in line to get on a roller coaster with my husband and when i went to sit in the seat i couldn’t fit in it at all. i was so embarrassed, not just for me but for my husband too. Everyone was staring at me because i had to get off the ride. I hung my head in shame and walked away.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I was getting dressed for work one day and was jumping up and down to squeeze into my size 24 jeans and i could barely button them. everything hung over the top and i was so uncomfortable. In the past i would have just started buying size 26 clothes, but I had a breakdown over this and got so mad at myself. i stared at myself in the mirror and just thought to myself why did i let myself go like this. I looked gross, now i know why people stared at me all the time.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by getting a handle on my eating habits. I always ate and i always ate until i was uncomfortably full. So i knew portion control was my first step then i needed to work on adding healthy eating to my diet. I never ate what i should for a day with regard to fruits and vegetables. once i started on that i purchased a recumbent bike and an elliptical. Due to my weight i knew i wanted low impact cardio. I was so afraid of stress fractures. I started out slow at 20-30 minutes a night and the rest was history 🙂

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
with in the first week, i noticed it, i dropped a couple of pounds just by getting my eating under control. i had weekly weighing and kept a journal with dates and what i weighted

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
In the beginning staying focused was hard. Until i really started dropping the weight then i couldn’t wait for my weigh ins to see what i had lost that week. It started getting really exciting for me.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
No, i got focused fast and stayed focused. I have not strayed from this journey yet and have no intentions on ever doing so. I am a competitive person especially with myself lol. I do not take it easy on myself, i know my limitations and when i have reached then until that point I push hard. I love what i have accomplished and love seeing what my body is capable of doing.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes once i lost 145lbs i started weight training to begin the toning process and went back up in the 160’s. i fluctuated between 162-167. i wasn’t happy with that at all. I got my head back on straight and i am at my lowest of 154lbs now 🙂

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about 2 years. i was in no rush and wanted to do i the right and healthy way. Lord now it took me years and years to get like this so i couldn’t expect to lose ti overnight.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes, i am a true runner now I absolutely love it. My fastest 5k run is 24 minutes and 46 seconds. i am pretty proud of that. I just completed my first 12 marathon about a month ago and ran the entire way. 2 hours and 26 minutes. my next time i run a 1/2 marathon i would like my time to be 2 hours and 10 minutes.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
WOW, it is totally different. I eat all whole foods now or some people call them 1 ingredient items. I try not to eat processed foods. before my journey started vegetable and fruit were scarce from my diet. I at lots of greasy foods and loved things like mac and cheese. Not anymore. Clean eating is the way to go for me 🙂

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I never stop moving now, i have so much energy i don’t know what to do with it half the time. Before i started i was “lazy” i watched lots of tv and never ever exercised.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. stay focused. You are the only person that can make you priority #1.
  2. Cut out the soda and fast food. Try and stay away from greasy and processed foods
  3. Eat your vegetable and fruits. Eat food from the earth like we were intended to
  4. It is not a race to loose weight, it took time to put the weight on so be patient taking it off.
  5. Remember the 3 D’s, Determination, Dedication and Discipline and you can’t go wrong!
