WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
by the age of 8 to 10 I was overweight.
When I married my first husband I was 200 pounds but this was a stable weight.
I gained another 88 pounds due to the marriage being extremely traumatic.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was still able to do a physical job and take my son out an about and do most things. If I had of got any bigger that would not of been the case.
I think what was worse was that I felt like I was carrying that 88 pounds of my ex-husband around with me.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I remarried in Jan 2015 to a very supportive man who I felt safe with and who my son was more than happy to be left with if I needed to go out to exercise, that was the launch pad I needed.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I was getting advice from a doctor at work on nutrition and starting up exercise. Who I still go to now for more advice 🙂
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
for the first 8 weeks nothing much happened ( I then had the Mirena taken out ) – could be coincidence but I then started loosing weight.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Well I think they hardest part is that strangers can be cruel. I was (and others) were laughed at, at the gym. I’ve been ridiculed/laughed at while out walking round the park. Even now when I look a lot fitter and can run 10km I get people yell stuff at me when they drive past.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I’ve never wanted to give up. I’ve been lucky in regards to that.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I think once I plateaued for about 3 weeks but I just had to tell myself that things were happening other than the number on the scale
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
12 to 15 months for my – I then had a full lower body lift in July 2016
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
running my first 5k and 10k races – looking better in my 30’s than ever did in my 20’s
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
total turn around – I don’t even want bad foods any more.
loads of protein and veg/salad… a lot less carbs, I still eat some, but I will eat brown rice instead of hash browns etc.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I run 2 to 3 times a week and cycle 2 to 3 times a week and I do weights 2 to 3 times a week.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Just start
- Eating healthy doesn’t happen overnight… it takes time to figure it out.. don’t beat yourself up about it.
- exercise also takes time – start with 10 mins a day 5 times a week and go from there.
- one bad meal doesn’t mean cheat for the rest of the weekend and start again on Monday – you start again from that meal.
- drink lots of water
