WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

I had always been a “thicker” girl but I played soccer my whole life competitively and played in college. It was there I had a ankle injury that required surgery and I couldn’t workout at all for nearly a year I gained almost a 100 lbs in a little over a year it was so depressing when I was finally able to run and workout again I was so discouraged I had no motivation I had given up.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
It was horrible I never got to enjoy the beach I hated the beach, or going to water parks I wouldn’t have been caught dead in a swim suit. I think the biggest eye opener was when I could no longer fight on roller coasters at six flags. That was the tip of the ice berg I was so embarrassed and hurt after that.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I new someone who had the gastric sleeve and they were much older and alot heavier than I was, they seemed to have amazing results so I looked into it and found it to be the perfect fit for me.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Most people think that surgery is the easy way out, however in some ways it is harder than doing things naturally I was on a liquid diet pre surgery for almost 6 weeks I had to prove to the dr. That I was determined and could lose weight on my own because once the surgery was complete there was no turning back.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I saw the numbers on the scale dropping instantly however I didn’t feel like I could see or feel a change in my body untill I was about 3 months post op. When I was able to eat normal food again and it was then I decided to dedicate my life back to the gym and getting my body the way I never thought it could be again.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The biggest challenge for me was I love food lol I love the way it taste I never ate because I was hungry I ate because the feeling it gave me. Also me and my mom are real Estate agents so we spend alot of time on the go and entertaining clients at resturaunts. It is hard for me to eat certain foods I end up getting a kids meal or just grilled meat of some sort and veggies and I still only finish about half of it.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
When I woke up from surgery it was the most awful pain you could ever imagine and they want you up and walking instantly my oxygen levels dropped to a dangerously low rate because I was in so much pain I physically didn’t want to breathe, I remember crying because the nurse just kept yelling at me that I better breathe or I was going to have to stay the night (it is an outpatient procedure) I was in alot of pain for about 6 weeks and I instantly regretted my decision and thought what did I get myself into, but once you see the scale moving even if it’s just a pound here or there it totally makes you want to strive to hit that next goal and it helps you push through at the gym when you are tired because you are losing the weight you are doing it and for someone who struggled so long with sticking to it, that sense of accomplishment was amazing.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I fortunately have not had any plateus I have slowed down from dropping 10 to 15 lbs a month to about 5 to 10 lbs a month but I would say don’t weigh yourself every day at first just weigh once a week and when progress halts move to once every two weeks it is easy to get discouraged when you feel like you are working hard for nothing

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I am 7 months post op and I have already lost 130lbs

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Just getting my confidence back alone, to be able to walk into a room or club and feel eyes staring at you not because your dress is too tight but because you look damn good! That was an accomplishment in itself.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I can only eat small portions sometimes kids meals are even to much for me. I tend to have a fridge full of left overs lol. I eat alot more often I am hungry every couple of hours which helps my metabolism. Where as before I would only eat once or twice a day and I ate huge meals aka big Mac from mcdonalds and a large fry and maybe even a mcdouble if I was extra hungry (awful I know lol)

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I have always been pretty active but I can run a mile and be at the gym for 3 hours if need be. I also am back playing soccer in an adult women’s league where I am the reigning mvp lol
