WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have always been overweight, I was born a big baby! But it never stopped me from doing whatever I wanted to do. I was a cheerleader, swimmer, super social and outgoing. I didn’t get picked up on school. I was your average, boy crazy girl.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
It wasn’t until college when I made the school’s cheerleading team and then was embarrassed by trying to have my size 18 body fit into a size 4 uniform that I realized how the world viewed me. They couldn’t NOT pick me because I was one of the best but they could humiliate me. from there I really tried to lose weight but ultimately when I got married, I found happiness and someone that unconditionally loved me and I thought I was good.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
In April 2013, after having just moved to California, I was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. At 32, I was told to lose weight or I would die. 310 lbs was not meant for my 5′ frame. So tired of living under a facade of self acceptance I started my journey to lose weight.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I actually started with changing my diet, my husband is our chef, so no salts in my food and low carb high protein was my life. I exercised daily at home using beachbody workouts and FitnessBlender on YouTube for at least 30 minutes a day.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Within a couple of months I was down about 30 lbs. I was tracking my progress thru MyFitnessPal and thru IG.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My biggest challenge was consistency. I hate working out. If I was out for a certain event or really wanted a certain food, I thought, I can have that and would over indulge and it would be so hard to get back on track. Or when I am doing everything right and the scale didn’t move or worse it went up!!!! Off to sneak that extra cookie I would go!

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Daily I had to remind myself of what that nurse said “Change your life or you are going to die”, it was truly that simple. I loved my husband and daughter too much to not fight for them.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
In 2015, I got down to about 261 lbs but couldn’t seem to get lower. I started yo-yoing and quickly found myself creeping back up towards 300lbs. I started playing around with altering my food a bit to jump start the weight loss.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
In Oct 2015, after having returning to work after having my son a year earlier, I found that I was 280 lbs and wanted to lose weight. I joined the office weight challenge and began exercising and eating cleaner. I was doing well, down to 272lbs in about a month. The weekend of my son’s 1st birthday, I didn’t track my food as well as I should have…I gained 5lbs and that was it! I decided that I had to do something else and decided that I should look into weight loss surgery. In Jan.2016, I had gastric bypass; starting the year off at 285lbs and I am currently 192 lbs as of today.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
My first NSV that comes to mind was the day I no longer had to shop in the plus size section. I couldn’t believe that my 2x/3x clothes were falling off of me! When I purchased my first size 16 pants…I cried.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Due to the restrictions of my surgery I eat way less. But my diet now consists of little to no breads, pastas, rice, cereal, fruits, high starchy anything. I do alot of protein and vegetables consistently.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Since my weight loss journey I have decided to use my voice and social media to inspire other women to get healthy! I became a beachbody coach this past October and I showcasing my workout regiments everyday! I am showing how I am transforming my body. I am so much stronger not just physically but mentally. I push thru workouts that I would have never been able to do earlier this year. I am more active and always on the go! Its just amazing how much my life has changed.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Never give up! I know its hard and some days you just don’t want to but keep going. Find a motivational quote or person to get you over that hump, YOU GOT THIS!
  2. Take it one day, one small goal at a time. When I think about how far I still have to go, it can be overwhelming and daunting, so I don’t. I look at some non-weight related goals that I can reach this week, and if that is too far, think about today and go for it. When you look at smaller goals, it makes it all easier to chew.
  3. Support! I don’t know where I would be without my amazing support system. I already had a loving and supportive husband but the extension of that that I got thru my IG family and my beachbody family is what inspired me to be become a coach. Support is some important in this journey and we all need it. There are some amazing people out there that want to see you succeed and we are here to help!
