WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve been overweight all of my life including my childhood.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight has affected every aspect of my life. I also have PCOS. I developed hypertension at the age of 16 and type 2 diabetes at the age of 21.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
Just thinking enough is enough and realizing I’m tired of being a prisoner to medicine. I started thinking about my quality of life and I knew I deserved more.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I got started at the local YMCA by doing a program called “The Fresh Stert Challenge”. I worked out with a group and trainer twice a week. I eventually started participating in classes and trying things on my own such as Zumba and walking.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Probably took me about 12-16 weeks to really notice the weight coming offs.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I definitely had to overcome the difficulty of not being in shape. Working out is hard! Also gym memberships and clean eating is expensive until you learn how to budget. I also had to realize I’m a lot stronger than my mind allowed me to think.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
No I never want to give up. I knew once my health started improving that it was all worth it.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit a plateau right around 50 pounds at that time I knew it was time to start going harder in the gym and pushing myself to tryvnee things

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
About 10 months

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes I lost 24.5 inches off my waist so far.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I don’t eat as many carbs as I used to. I’ve also eliminated all fried foods and processed meats. My old diet consisted of fried foods and a lot of pasta. Now I don’t eat carbs and I only eat grilled lean meats.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I wasn’t physical when I get was heaven now I work out about 5 days a week.

  1. Don’t give up.
  2. Eat clean
  3. Never skip a planned workout
  4. Plan your meals
  5. Always eat breakdast
