NAME : Lacie
BEFORE WEIGHT : 335
AFTER WEIGHT : 230
POUNDS LOST : 105

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have always been built bigger, but I think it started to become a noticeable problem when I hit middle school (age would have been about 11).

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I think when I was younger I was oblivious because it was what I had always known, but as I got older I realized that there were a lot of barriers to being a “plus size” girl. I think it forced me to be a lot stronger of a person. One moment that I do remember very vividly was in 1998 (the summer before I went to high school) I went to Girl Scout camp and there was a team building obstacle course and I needed a lot of help getting over this log. Everyone else was so much smaller than me and it literally took my whole team to help hoist me over this log. I think it was the first time I really felt like “the big girl”.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The turning point was June 2013, I had just gone through a horrible break up and I found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands and a sadness I had never felt before. I refused to be one of those girls that stays sad, gains weight and becomes one with their negativity. I decided that my anger would be put to work best at the gym. I spent a lot of sad workouts on the elliptical, but I figured it was best to get it out in a positive way. At this point something in me clicked and I knew it was time to change myself.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I don’t do anything half hearted so I went all in. I started by doing 45 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of lifting at the gym (I knew nothing about lifting at this point an literally just walked around from machine to machine and if they worked body parts in the same area I figured they were good for the same day).

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I’ve been blessed through this journey to have seen results right from the start and consistently through the first year. I lost between 8-10lbs every month from about August 2013- June 2014.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I think the hardest part for me is the nutrition. I love food (sweets especially). I have fallen in love with the gym and working out, but it what I do with the other 22 hours of the day that I struggle with. I think eating every three hours and drinking a gallon of water a day has really helped me with that. I have always said I could eat clean all day if I knew that at the end was a piece of cake, but unfortunately, that is not where you see results.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
This time for me was different, even though I am only 16 months in, I love this lifestyle and how it makes me feel. Yes, there are always going to be times where I cheat, and cheat really badly, but you can always come back from that. I will never be 330+lbs again.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
From June 2013-July 2014 I did not hit any plateaus, I was consistent, motivated and had extreme tunnel vision. July 2014-October 2014 I was consistently at the same weight and could not break through the plateau (yes my 30th birthday was in that time so I did enjoy myself). On October 1st I decided that I had, had enough of this and that I was going to make a change no matter what it took. I started doing 2 a days and cleaning up my eating and I have finally broke through that plateau as of October 4th. There is nothing easy about this process, but you learn so much about yourself and what you can do.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I lost 98lbs from June 2, 2013- June 2, 2014 and since then have lost another 7 lbs. My goal is to get to “ONEderland” in early 2015 so I have no time for slacking.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I think my every day life is full of non-scale victories…

I can sit in a public seat at a theater and not feel like I have to hold myself in as to not bother the people on either side of you. I can truly sit comfortably in “average” public seating.

I can shop in stores that I could never have before. For a girl that loves fashion as much as I do I think this is the greatest. Oh and no more wide calf boots 😉

I am starting to look like my mom and sister and they are beautiful women so that really excites me.

I can stand for long periods of time at a concert and not feel like my body is going to collapse.

I CAN CROSS MY LEGS COMFORTABLY!!

I could go on forever. All the pain, exhaustion and sacrifice is worth it because every day I get to live a better life.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Surprisingly I have always been very aware of my diet, but I did cheat a lot more than I should have. I only ate 3 times a day, had high carb meals and rarely drank water. Now I eat between 5 and 6 meals a day that are VERY high in protein, fruits and vegetables, I also drink a gallon of water a day.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Physically is like night and day. I currently lift for about 45 minutes and do 30 minutes of cardio in morning (I am on my second round of Jamie Eason LiveFit Trainer program from bodybuilding.com…its free) and then go back to the gym for a class (usually spinning, I have fallen in love with spinning). So I am currently working out for about 2:15 a day, but this is because of my plateau. Prior to October I was working out for about 1:30 in the morning (as of February) prior to February I was working out in the evening.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Drink a lot of water!!
  2. Eat often and eat nutrient dense foods.
  3. You can do it, its not easy, there is no easy fix, but you can do it…all by yourself. Find that focus and don’t let up on it. There will always be another chance to eat that wedding cake, I promise you. It is worth every sacrifice!!
  4. Get uncomfortable. Nothing good comes from inside your comfort zone. Go do something you have never done…pick up some weights, take a class, go for a run or a hike, just remember that if you’re comfortable you are not doing all you can to be successful.
  5. Remember why you started. I wrote down in my phone why I was doing this and looked at them almost every night. It keeps you focused on the reasons to be successful instead of letting doubt and negativity in. Stay positive!
