NAME : Sarah
BEFORE WEIGHT : 270
AFTER WEIGHT : 170
POUNDS LOST : 100

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

I was always an overweight child, I loved food and my mom would give it to me. By the time I was 18 I was 210 lbs and I thought nothing was wrong. I started driving at truck at 20 and within a year I ballooned to 270 lbs. At the time I didn’t see it but looking back I was slowly killing myself.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I couldn’t walk up stairs without getting winded. In the heat I would just sweat. Heck I would sweat in normal weather. Making friends and being social was impossible I had zero self confidence. I wanted to be like them and just hated myself more and more.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My turning point will stay plastered in my brain for all eternity. I was on a shipping dock waiting for my trailer to be loaded. When all of a sudden the dock workers started snickering and laughing. I was unknowingly standing on a scale meant for pallets. There was my weight in LARGE red numbers, 270. I literally cried for a day straight, I didn’t know it had gotten that bad.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I cut my calories to 1200 a day and ate clean with low carbs and just started walking. Slowly at first then building up to 3 miles a day. After awhile I joined a gym, started weight training and doing cardio and following a ketogenic lifestyle.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I didn’t see results probably until I hit 230 lbs after that every 10 lbs I could see I difference from my last picture.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Being over road in a truck months at a time. I had to completely reconfigure my truck to be able to cook in it. Trying to find places that I could park to grocery shop. Feeling like I was dying while working out but not giving up. Then finally the lack of support I had until I started hitting the the 100’s and people saw I was serious.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes, yes, and yes. I actually did give up for a year at 200lbs, I thought I was just meant to be fat forever. But then looking at pictures on Facebook and doing research made me realize I CAN and I WILL do this. I just had to switch up my approach.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I plateaued at 200 lbs I just couldn’t budge the scale which lead to me giving up. Switching to a ketogenic diet has helped me move the scale and inches lost again.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
About 2 years if you don’t count the year I quit. The first 70 came off easy with minimal effort. The last 30 more slowly and I still have 20 left until my ultimate goal!

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Being able to shop at Buckle, buying a Victoria Secrets bra and panties. Sooo many mostly with clothes something I hated before.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I spend one day a week cooking my portioned ketogenic friendly dinners for the week so I can take them on the road now. Breakfast and lunch are normally shakes and bars. Before all it was was fast food or processed box foods and I’d eat the whole box.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Gosh, I have so much energy now and I feel lighter. I don’t get out of breath, I can run, I quit smoking. My quality of life is just better.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Always meal prep, don’t put yourself in the position of being hungry and not having something pre planned. That’s how cheating happens.
  2. Drink your water, even if you go to the bathroom every 10 seconds drink it and cut out the rest.
  3. Get your exercise out of the way in the morning I found I’m less likely to skip that way.
  4. Set mini goals, get some clothes get your hair done reward yourself it’s a long road!
  5. Don’t give up even if you slip. You didn’t gain overnight you won’t lose overnight. Forgive yourself if you do slip up.
