WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
My weigh problem has been since I was in high school. I struggled with bulimia after my school coach told me he didn’t want an overweight guard and starter on the basketball team. This sport was everything to me. I dedicated every second of my life to it, missing out on trips and events with friends and family, as well as scouts coming to watch me. It took one game my last game with his team when my mother saw a trend happening after dinner. I would eat…then go straight to the washroom. I have thrown up so much the stomach acid has burn my reflex glands…and cause some other unfortunate health issues. I began to learn more the healthy ways and kept up with my fitness by walks and being active.
2010 I met a man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. Only did it take 6 years to realize it wasn’t healthy, happy, or the way I wanted to live. My wings were taken from me, my independence, my confidence. Things happened where I no longer felt beautiful, important, or worthy. The only thing that kept me soo happy in those 6 years was food.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight hurt me in so many ways. It can hurt your mind. It can hurt the way you feel about yourself and how people will look at you.

All my friends are beautiful and skinny and I used bulimia to try and be that “skinny girl”. I wouldn’t go with friends to parties the beach even to meet new people. I didn’t want to be looked at as the ugly dumpling. This gave me no back bone and I was walked and physically and mentally hurt by others. Even those who were suppose to love me and protect me.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My ex husband and I moved provinces away from family and friends. I was lonely. I had made some friends but with my past was hard for me to trust. Again no confidence. The ex man that was in my life didn’t seem to find any excitement and want for me to be around. His attention was fully on his new career and his video games…I didn’t even have the support when I was hospitalized twice. Be a new game that came out that would pull him away from being there along side of my bed. So I woke up every morning at 4:45am to go to the gym for almost 2 hours every am. And after work I would go for another hour and a half.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
In my case it was easy to get started. New province, new town, no family, at that time no friends. My “best friend” had better things to do. So I wanted out of the house. I wanted to be somewhere that I could think, get my frustration out, even just to cry during an obstacle in the back corner of the field house.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started to see results within the first month. When you have a lot of weight to lose the first 20lbs were just coming off, and the amount of gyming I did 6/7 days a week almost 4 hours a day, it helped me see results fast

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The biggest was at home support. I got the questions of
“Who are you working out for?”
“Its stupid”
When I would ask for him to come he never wanted to come. Maybe twice because it was in his work schedule and was mandatory.
I also found it was tough trying to learn the workouts. I didn’t have the help of being told form

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
To be honest everyone will be different. I wasn’t doing fitness to try and get fit at first I just wanted an escape. Because I feel I didn’t have a goal set I just enjoyed it for just being by myself and having the fitness to help with my troubled relationship

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I did! it was when I was 210lbs…190lbs and 172lbs!
Just switching up reps and sets adding more or adding less and going up in weights. Using HIIT on the stairmaster and getting away from the treadmill.

At my 170lbs (and this is when I was on my own) I decided as something for me I would get a trainer to provide a plan and workout. It worked for me and got me at a goal weight I wanted to be at to wear 3 beautiful dresses to my new found loves graduation!!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
to lose my 100lbs it took me a year and 7 months!

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes!
Laundry and stairs were so hard. Out of air and tired. Noticing every week it got easier was rewarding. I remember even crying on the bed.
My confidence and being stronger mentally. Fitness saved me from hurting myself. And when I say this it I mean it saved me from thinking leaving this earth would be the easy way out. So my biggest victory is just being here today

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I don’t snack in bed! That was huge. no more chips chocolate bars no more KFC or fast food every week! Pop! As I write this I had one of those small gingerale cans but its in my diet after a good solid workout 😉 ! My fridge has fresh food and my freezer has nothing but chicken ground turkey fish and real fruit popsicles

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I am more outgoing! I am wanting to be out there, and I am always looking for activities to do that keeps me on my feet! I can do laundry without dreading it, I am always cleaning lol which I am sure my boyfriend just loves. And with him being into fitness it just makes being active so much more easier and fun

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Stick to small goals! Small goals are easier to achieve. You want to lose 60lbs> AWESOME, BUT! to set a goal to lose 10lbs that month is easier to achieve and it doesn’t make you lose focus when you are so focused on that 60 number
  2. Stop telling yourself you want to look like that 110lb girl with awesome abs and fake boobs, We all have our own canvas, we are all different, and a lot of times those girls on covers on magazine have the help of professional trainers and surgeons
  3. Drink your water!!!!! Adding fruits or those fruit drops helps a lot.
  4. Sundays are my favorite days to meal prep and grocery shop. After I do my shopping I quickly take my chicken and put in separate freezer bags so its easy to grab out of the freezer to thaw out for the next day. Meal prep is easy if you make the grab and go easy. Take an hour prep your foods and freeze them!
  5. Go grocery shopping after you eat and carry that water with you. Going grocery shopping on an empty stomach is trouble and we will crave foods we don’t need !
